A New Approach to Teaching Elementary Music

treble.jpg (1810 bytes)Teaching today is not an easy job.  In the field of education, even more difficult is the task of the elementary music teachers who must endure more than their share of program cutbacks just to survive.

Public school music must look to the elementary school program for survival, however bad the situation.  Dwindling music enrollment in the upper grades must be addressed, and this can only be done through radical change of philosophy and direction on the part of the elementary teacher.  Love of music, inherent in all children, must be supported by knowledge about music.

A unified system of music education is needed - capable of leading students toward appreciation of and a knowledge about music from elementary school through high school.

What is proposed here is a complete change of curriculum for Grade 3 through Grade 6 - an approach to teaching the skills of music literacy to our young children.
